I've always been more of an observer than a participant, and I'm drawn to photography largely because it's the art of observeration. That said, there are two things about photography that I find particularly fascinating and rewarding: 1) capturing time, and 2) capturing light. Photography provides the perfect opportunity to create art from science.
My photos are titled with numbers indicative of the order in which they were shot. This is done with a nod to Karma to Burn, a largely instrumental band whose songs were titled with a number indicative of the order in which they were written. I've always felt that by not giving the songs "proper" names the listener had the power to give their own meaning to each song. I also think that art is best consumed when it's personalized. As you browse my photos, I encourage you to give them titles of your own. Give them meaning. Personalize them.
I started getting really getting into photography in 2008 and bought my first DSLR - a Sony α200 (I had been a big fan of Sony's other electronics and the α200 was in my price range) after outgrowing my point-and-shoot. In 2010 I bought a Minolta 50mm f/1.7 lens and was immediately hooked on Minolta lenses for the colors that they produce. The α200 would eventually fall to its demise on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and I replaced it with the Sony α55 that I'm still using today.
